From 1954 to 1975, the Ben Hai River served as the demarcation line between the Republic of Vietnam and Democratic Republic of Vietnam. To either side of the river was an area 5Km wide known as the demilitarized zone (DMZ). The DMZ itself and areas to the South saw plenty of action and experienced a high military presence.

Good morning Perfume Pagoda (L)
Pick up at the hotel in Hue City, head north on Highway One toward Dong Ha Town, stopping at sites along the way, such as Highway of Horror, Quang Tri Citadel, the Ai Tu Airfield.
Continue to Dong Ha, the former headquarters of the 9th marine, head west on Route 9. The first stop is the Rock pile, a lookout of Marine Corps.
We will then visit Khe Sanh Combat Base.
Enjoy lunch in Dong Ha Town. After lunch, head north to visit the Peace Bridge over the Ben Hai River into the middle of the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone).
Ben Hai River was the only true physical demarcation between North and South Vietnam.
Continue on to Vinh Moc tunnels, the refuge of over 400 people during the bombing operation “ Rolling Thunder “.
Return to Hue City and end of the trip.
